What does it check?

Six things decide whether an AI engine quotes a page or passes it over. Each gets its own score, and the weakest one is flagged as your biggest lever.

Answerability

Does the page open with a direct, quotable answer? That first sentence is what an AI lifts into its response — or skips.

Citability structure

Headings, lists, tables and Q&A framing that let an answer engine pull out a clean, attributable chunk.

Answer-engine schema

The JSON-LD structured data AI engines and rich results expect for this type of page (Article, Product, FAQPage, Organization…).

Entity coverage

Whether it's clear who or what the page is about — and whether those entities link out (sameAs) so AI can resolve them.

AI-citation signals (GEO)

Entity linkage, published/modified dates and author trust — the signals that decide which source gets the citation.

SEO basics

Title, meta description, a single H1, image alt text, canonical, Open Graph — the fundamentals that gate everything else.

Sees what you see

It grades the rendered page in your browser — so it works on JavaScript apps, staging sites, logged-in pages, and sites that block crawlers.

Fixes, not just a score

Every issue comes with a ready-to-run prompt for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini — tailored to the platform the page runs on, like Shopify or WordPress.

Spy on who's winning

Run it on the page AI cites instead of yours, then on your own. The gap between the two results is your to-do list.

What do the scores mean?

The bands are calibrated against real outcomes — sites we grade and also track in AI answer engines.

ScoreVerdictWhat it means
45–100Likely to be citedIn the range AI engines actually cite. Polish the biggest lever and move on.
30–44Needs workReadable, but a competitor with clearer answers and schema will usually win the citation.
0–29Likely skippedAI engines struggle to extract or trust it. Start with the opening answer and schema.

Frequently asked questions

What does the AI Citation Checker do?+

It grades a single web page on how likely AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Claude — are to read, understand and cite it. You get a 0–100 AI-readiness score, a breakdown across six dimensions, a plain-language verdict, and a copy-paste AI prompt to fix each issue.

Can I check a competitor's page?+

Yes. It works on any page you can open in your browser — yours, a competitor's, a client's. Run it on the page that's getting cited instead of yours and compare the two results.

Why a bookmarklet instead of typing in a URL?+

Because it grades the page your browser has already rendered. That means it works on sites that block crawlers, on JavaScript-heavy pages, on staging sites, and on pages behind a login or paywall — anything you can see. If you'd rather paste a URL or a draft, use the pre-publish grader at seolz.com/grade.

What does the score mean?+

Scores are calibrated against real AI-citation outcomes: pages scoring 45 or higher are in the range that AI engines actually cite, 30–44 needs work, and under 30 is usually skipped. The single biggest lever is called out first, so you know what to fix before anything else.

What do you store?+

We never store the page's content. The result is kept for 7 days at a private, unguessable link so you can share it. We also keep the anonymous score and the types of issues found (plus the page address, without any query string) to build the benchmarks shown on each result.

Why does the bookmark have no icon?+

Browsers don't let bookmarklets carry their own icon, so it shows up by name — look for “SEOLZ Scan” in your bookmarks bar.

Does it work on my phone?+

Mobile browsers make bookmarklets awkward to install. On a phone, use the pre-publish grader at seolz.com/grade and check the page by URL instead.

How is this different from a full SEOLZ audit?+

The checker grades one page's content in about a second. A full SEOLZ audit crawls every page of your site across six pillars — SEO, AEO, AI visibility, accessibility, security and site health — tracks live AI mentions, and watches for regressions between releases.

One page is a taste. Your whole site is the meal.
