How to fix seo product description thin on Shopify Plus

Steps for Shopify Plus

1. Same as Shopify above; additionally use the Shopify Plus Bulk Importer (Admin → Products → Import/Export via CSV) to update the 'Body HTML' column in bulk for large catalogues.
2. Work with your developer to add Metaobject-powered 'expanded description' sections in your theme if you want descriptions to appear in a separate tab or accordion without affecting the default product template.

What is seo product description thin?

A "thin" product description is one with very little text — sometimes just a few words, a single sentence, or a copied manufacturer blurb. When Google visits your product page, the description is one of the primary signals it uses to understand what the product is, who it's for, and which search queries it should appear in. A description with only 9 words (or even 50 words) gives Google almost nothing to work with and gives shoppers no reason to feel confident enough to buy.

Thin descriptions directly limit where your product pages can rank. Google's own guidance emphasizes that unique, helpful content is the foundation of appearing in search results — pages with almost no text rarely rank for anything beyond the exact product name, meaning you miss every long-tail search ("best waterproof hiking boots for wide feet") that drives ready-to-buy traffic. Beyond rankings, shoppers who land on a sparse page have more unanswered questions, lower trust, and are far more likely to bounce back to a competitor — hurting both your conversion rate and your revenue. A richer description also gives Google more material to generate compelling search snippets, which directly affects how many people click your result in the first place.
