How to fix lifecycle products too deep on PrestaShop
Move deeply buried product pages closer to the homepage by flattening your site's navigation structure so every product is reachable within 4 clicks (ideally 3) from the homepage.
Steps for PrestaShop
- Go to Catalog → Categories in the PrestaShop back office.
- Identify categories that are children of children — these create deep click paths.
- Edit each overly nested category and change its parent to a higher-level category using the 'Parent category' dropdown, then save.
- Go to Modules → Module Manager and configure your menu module (e.g. Main Menu or ps_mainmenu) to include the restructured categories as direct top-level or first-level items.
- On your homepage (via Modules → Home Featured or similar), add the previously buried products to the featured products list to create a 1-click homepage path.
What is lifecycle products too deep?
Click depth (sometimes called "crawl depth") is the minimum number of clicks it takes to reach a page starting from your homepage. A product that lives at Homepage → Category → Subcategory → Sub-subcategory → Product is 4 clicks deep. Search engines treat pages closer to the homepage as more important, and real shoppers simply abandon long navigation chains before they ever find the product. "Too deep" typically means more than 3–4 clicks from the homepage.
Google's crawlers follow links the same way a visitor does. Pages buried 5, 6, or more clicks from the homepage are crawled less frequently, may be crawled with lower "crawl budget" priority, and often rank lower even when the content is excellent. For shoppers, every extra click is a drop-off point — conversion rates fall sharply past 3 navigation steps. Fixing click depth simultaneously improves indexing speed, organic rankings, and the revenue those pages generate. It also makes your site easier to use, reducing cart abandonment from navigation frustration.
