How to fix seo category description missing on Elementor

Write a 100–200 word description for every category page explaining what products it contains and who they are for, so Google can rank it for category-level keywords.

Steps for Elementor

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Templates → Theme Builder. Locate (or create) the Archive template that controls your WooCommerce category pages — it is typically labeled 'Product Archive' or 'WooCommerce Archive'.
  2. Open the Archive template in the Elementor editor. Identify where the category header section sits (usually near the top, containing the category title). If no description widget exists yet, click the '+' icon to add a new widget in that section.
  3. Drag a 'Text Editor' widget (or an 'Archive Description' widget if your theme/Elementor Pro exposes it) into the category header section, placed directly below the category title widget.
  4. If using the 'Archive Description' widget, it will automatically pull the description you save in WooCommerce. If using a plain 'Text Editor' widget, switch to using the Archive Description widget instead so the text is dynamic and unique per category.
  5. Save the template, then go to WooCommerce → Products → Categories. Edit each category one by one, and in the 'Description' field write a 100–200 word paragraph explaining what products the category contains, the key use cases, and who they are for — incorporating the target category-level keyword naturally.
  6. Update each category and verify the description renders correctly on the live category page. Use a browser SEO tool (e.g., the 'SEO Meta in 1 Click' browser extension) to confirm the description text is present in the page's crawlable HTML and not hidden inside a collapsed/accordion element.

What is seo category description missing?

A category description is a short block of text — typically 100 to 200 words — placed on a collection, department, or category page that explains what products shoppers will find there and why those products are relevant to them. Think of it as an introduction to the aisle: "This is our range of waterproof hiking boots, designed for trail runners and weekend trekkers who need ankle support and grip in wet conditions." Without it, the page is essentially just a grid of product images with no written context for either visitors or search engines.

Category pages are among the highest-value pages on any ecommerce store — they target broad, high-volume keywords like "women's running shoes" or "organic skincare" that drive enormous organic traffic. Google needs readable, unique text to understand what a page is about and to decide whether it should rank for those terms. A category page with zero descriptive text gives Google nothing to work with, so it will rank product pages or competitors' category pages instead, costing you significant organic traffic and revenue. A well-written description also improves click-through rates by giving Google material to generate a useful search snippet, and it builds shopper confidence by immediately confirming they've landed in the right place.
