How to fix article missing author on WordPress.org

Add a structured-data author field (schema.org Person) to every article or blog post so AI engines and Google can identify and trust who wrote the content.

Steps for WordPress.org

  1. Install Yoast SEO (free) or Rank Math (free) if not already active.
  2. In Yoast: Users → Edit Author Profile → fill in First/Last Name, bio, and website URL. Yoast automatically includes this in Person schema on article pages.
  3. In Rank Math: go to Rank Math → Titles & Meta → Authors → enable author schema. Also fill in social profile URLs under Rank Math → Titles & Meta → Local SEO → Social Profiles.
  4. To add sameAs manually, use the 'Additional JSON-LD Schema' option in either plugin, or add the snippet to your child theme's functions.php using wp_head action.
  5. Validate with the Rich Results Test.

What is article missing author?

When you publish a blog post, guide, or news article on your store, search engines and AI assistants look for a machine-readable "author" signal — a structured-data block (written in JSON-LD) that names the person who wrote the piece, their credentials, and ideally a link to their public profile. Without this signal, the page has no verifiable author identity. It is part of the schema.org Article (or BlogPosting) markup standard and is one of the key signals Google uses to evaluate E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness).

Google has explicitly stated that authorship signals help it assess content quality, especially for "Your Money or Your Life" topics like health, finance, and product advice that many ecommerce blogs cover. AI-powered answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google SGE/AI Overviews) use structured authorship to decide whether to surface and cite your content. Missing author markup means your articles are treated as anonymous — reducing the chance they rank in traditional search and get cited by AI tools. Stores that invest in content marketing but skip author markup are leaving significant organic-traffic value unrealised; adding it is a quick technical win that directly supports long-term content ROI.
