The page title (also called the "title tag") is the clickable blue headline that appears in Google search results for your page. It lives inside your page's HTML as a `<title>` tag and is one of the most prominent signals Google uses to understand what a page is about. A title that is too short — typically under 50 characters — fails to communicate enough about the page, leaving valuable search real estate unused and giving both Google and shoppers less information to work with.
A short title is a missed opportunity on two fronts: ranking signals and click-through rate. Google uses the title to match your page to search queries, so a thin title with few relevant keywords means your page is less likely to appear for the searches that matter to your business. Even when you do rank, a vague or truncated title convinces fewer shoppers to click — directly reducing organic traffic and revenue. Studies consistently show that descriptive, keyword-rich titles in the 50–60 character range earn higher click-through rates than sparse ones. Google may also rewrite an inadequate title with text it pulls from your page, which means your carefully chosen words may never even appear in search results.
